Ghana Skate is the national governing body for all sports performed on skating wheels in Ghana.
Vision
To establish Ghana as a leading nation in roller sport by building a strong grassroots foundation, fostering national and international competitiveness, and creating a vibrant and inclusive skating community that contributes to health, youth development, and social cohesion.
Mission
To develop and promote roller sport in Ghana through structured programs, capacity building, strategic partnerships, and community engagement — ensuring the sport is accessible, sustainable, and aligned with global standards.
Skating in Ghana began as an informal and passionate pursuit around 2001. Enthusiasts from various regions and backgrounds united to explore different disciplines of skating, creating a vibrant yet unstructured community. However, the lack of governance, regulation, and formal infrastructure hindered the sport’s growth during its early years.
In 2011, the Ghana Skaters Association (GHASA) was established to bring order and direction to this burgeoning community. GHASA became the national governing body for skating in Ghana, transforming the sport from a loosely organized hobby into a structured and professionally recognized discipline. The association aligned itself with international bodies such as World Skate and World Skate Africa, ensuring that Ghanaian skaters adhered to global standards and participated in international competitions.
Recently, the association has undergone a significant rebranding to Ghana Skate. This change aligns with the global governing body’s transition to World Skate and symbolizes a renewed commitment to expanding the sport’s reach, enhancing its professionalism, and establishing Ghana as a significant player in the global skating community.
Strategic Goals
- Categorize the administration and development of roller sports into four (4) Zones.
- Promote and encourage the development of all sports governed by Ghana Skate, in all its possible forms, across the four Zones and sixteen Regions of Ghana.
- Promote skate sports free of doping, and adopt anti-doping rules following the latest version of the WADA Code.
- Increase relations between Ghana Skate, its national federations, and international sport organizations.
- Adopt uniform rules and regulations for the competitions of the different sports Ghana Skate governs.
- Organize national championships and take part in international competitions and events.
- Create and increase the number of governed sports, venues, and facilities across the four Zonal areas in Ghana.
- Establish and agree the annual calendar of intercontinental, continental, international, national, zonal, and regional programmes and competitions.

- Sustainability — ensure financial sustainability, environmental responsibility, and good governance.
- Inclusion & Diversity — promote gender equity, cultural integration, and social inclusion in all aspects of the sport.
World Skate — the international federation for skateboarding and roller sports, and Ghana Skate's parent body — is officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Skateboarding debuted at Tokyo 2020, featured again at Paris 2024, and has now been confirmed as a permanent core Olympic sport from Los Angeles 2028 onward. Every athlete Ghana Skate develops through its regions and clubs sits on a pathway that leads, ultimately, to the Olympic Games.

Pioneering skaters gather informally on the streets of Accra, laying the foundation for organized skating in Ghana.
The Ghana Skaters Association (GHASA) is formed, bringing structure and direction to the sport; Ghana wins bronze in South Africa.
Ghana secures another bronze medal at a competition in Kenya.
GHASA evolves into the Federation of Roller Sports; Ghana wins 3 gold and 3 silver at the Senegal Open.
4 silver, 1 bronze, and 2 gold medals at the West Africa Championship in Cotonou, Benin.
4 silver medals at the Africa Championship in Lomé, Togo.
The Federation rebrands as Ghana Skate, marking a new era of professionalism and global ambition.
3rd place at the 1st Junior World Cup of the Federation International Football Skating (FIFS), Trabzon, Turkey.
Ghana Skate Blueprint unveiled at the Accra Sports Stadium; registration and event platform launched.
Silver at the First International Francophonie Youth Skateboard Championship, Cotonou; gold and silver at the Inaugural International Challenge Cotonou Skating (I2CS).
